Lymm BIG SING choir
was formed in Spring 2012 to give experienced singers and newcomers the opportunity to sing exciting modern popular music.
Providing music for such a mixed ability group - from sight readers to complete beginners is a challenge but with many years of music teaching and choir leading experience husband and wife team Michael and Susan Healey have worked together to create original arrangements that are both accessible and interesting to the ear.
The genre is mainly popular music - from Beatles to Barry Manilow but short "serious" pieces like Pie Jesu ( Rutter) and even medieval carols have been on the agenda.
This is not a full time choir. We typically do one or two events a year which are prepared for by six to eight rehearsals. Choir members are provided with both sheet music and CDs so non-readers can sing along in bath or car.

After the first concert one choir member wrote "What a fantastic experience. Without the choir I probably wouldn't even have gone to this event .. I heard great music, actually sang in the concert and now, although I only moved here recently, whenever I go the the village I see some-one I know ! "
We try to make each Big Sing Choir event special in some way.
Ever since the first event in July 2012 when the choir sang to a packed festival marquee every concert has been a sell out. (Well we do have a sales team of 50)
The choir are backed up by semi-professional musicians and a top-notch vocal group (Shades of Blue) and we have even had our own celebrity soloists - Denise Leigh ( Winner of TV's Operatunity who was also a solo performer at the opening of the London Paralympics.) and Beverley Craven.
The current choir stands at around 50-60 -including 16 men.

It’s six years now since the Lymm BIG SING choir first appeared on the local scene.

Every concert the Big Sing has ever done has been a sell-out and what is more amazing is that everyone is welcome to join the choir, no audition, and many of the members have never sung in public before. Weekly rehearsals start about 8 weeks before each concert -mostly Mondays.

In January 2016 Leanne's son Beren (aged 3) was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes - a very difficult condition to manage in a child so young and it presents multiple challenges on a daily basis.
​
Leanne (in collaboration with Paul Rowlands) has written about caring for Beren in the song Guardian Angel, to raise money for JDRF, a charity which funds world-class research into the cure, prevention and treatment of Type 1 Diabetes.
​
